7 steps for an optimal computer system

1.            First back up all your important data on to a separate partition/hard drive (emails docs etc)

2.            Do a clean install of your OS from the install cd

3.            Disable any computer virus programs ( this is controversial but all virus software by definition only works for known computer virus so you are no safer from a threat then if you did not have it. Providing your system is clean of course)

4.            Install any other software needed, Printer drivers, Photoshop etc

5.            Test it for a couple days and make sure you are happy

6.            Make a ghost image or copy of this partition using any of the following  software, partition magic, Norton ghost, Acronis, shareware etc

7.            Use your computer…

What you will have created is a system that allows you at any given moment to return your computer to its optimal state from the restore. So long as your files are kept safe on a separate hard drive or partition and you make a regular backup you should be fine.

Work Connexions Welcomes Kumiko From Japan

The importance of Japan, we put it into the spotlight in our forums starting next week.

We welcome kumiko from Japan. We will be compiling information and examining the work ethic in Japan in the coming period. Why are we doing this? Japan is one of the smaller land masses in the world yet in economic output it is second only to America. What are they doing? How are they doing it? And what can we learn from it. As we make this trip of discovery we hope that you will join us. While we do not expect that all your employees will be doing star jumps when they come in in the morning. We do hope that you will unlock some of the Japanese potential and gain that competitive edge.

Now your Advertisement can go to the Desktop

Regular visitors will know we have been excited about Permission Marketing for a while now, particularly the views of Seth Godin. Work Connexions can now extend their Permission-based Marketing services by offering Advertisements syndicated to users’ desktops, web browser or RSS Reader. Keep up to date with what you are looking for by subscribing to a Search. Work Connexions is a firm believer in Permission-based Marketing, and has developed a number of services based around this concept. Permission-based Marketing is the term given to the marketing scheme whereby users actively request or are presented with relevant, highly targeted advertisements. Whether they are the advertisements on the side of your Google search results or via a Work Connexions RSS feed, you can be sure that users are likely to be interested in reading your Advertisement.

A number of Permission-based Marketing schemes are currently in development, and we hope to launch these exciting new features very soon and help you make use of modern Web techniques to sell your services, or get the help you need for your project.

  • For more information on using the Advertisement RSS service, please see this blog entry, which explains all you need to do.

Just the right amount of Naivety

Naivety is a funny old word. Can we have just the right amount naivety?

If we are cynics about the world and the things we do, would we get very much done?

One has to strive to a higher goal as a way moving forward. Of course that goal must be attainable or then we end up saying he/she is naive.

So in conclusion it is very much about hitting the middle ground.

Dealing with Every Day Challenges

There is a Bob Dylan gangster song called Joey where one of the lines is ’peace and quiet is what we need to get back to work’ It is fairly obviously thought, in war there are rarely winners. This almost sounds like a push for world peace. The parallels do exist. When one is in Business they are for the most part serving a need in there relevant sector. I would imagine that very few people enter into business with objective of having a war.

Every now and then it is necessary to exercise a degree of empathy and consider what your competitors are doing. There are of course severely choices here. One can ignore the changing world and circumstance to his/her own peril. My personal strategy is to neutralise the threat. This often done by working together or having frank discussions. Examples of this are of course unions, professional bodies, etc.

All these groups have an important role to play and achieve an awful lot for their members. For example unions in Japan, have been very successful. In Japanese canteens they all sit together as a team.

Successful online Business

One of the keys to having a successful website or online business is also being active offline. One can see this in the case of  second life (www.secondlife.com) or the long list of A bloggers. A lot of these successful internet entrepreneurs have real life business and more important high social contact online as offline. It has to be remembered that technology is only an aid not a replacement for doing business that counts. The techniques used  are just the same as in real life. The only difference is the possibilities our much greater.
