I found this presentation short sharp and simple about how to sell something. It takes about 2 minutes of your time, but a lot more in thinking about it afterwards.
Was it good for you ?
Just came across this on the Prospectus website, which caught my attention. So they must be doing something right.
http://www.prospects.ac.uk Prospect is a career website for university graduates.
“It was Albert Einstein, himself no stranger to the occasional crazy concept, who claimed that insanity was doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Whilst this isn’t exactly the sort of definition you’d expect a mental health professional to agree with, it’s certainly true that continually banging your head against a wall and expecting anything other than a headache seems a little daft. That’s why if you find yourself in the position where several months after graduation you are still trying to get your Plan A to work it might be time to accept that you could do with a Plan B.”
This philosopher can be applied to business. My own philosopher is to say yes untill you are too busy to say yes anymore. Thoughts.
Linkedin have just come out with an interesting set of third party applications that help make your profile come more alive. Integration is definitely the key buzz word at the moment. The one that most caught my eye is the company buzz that shows information on your profile page about what other people are saying about you or your company on twitter. Here is some info about the new tools from Linkedkin.
Work collaboratively with your network.
Share information and keep up to date with your network.

The first thing in setting up an office or moving to another place for business is letting people know that you there. You can do this by a number of means. Registering at the Chamber of Commerce, sending out information, attending networking events.
There are also some more interesting and innovative ways. Like writing a blog post about the area and mentioning the names of businesses that appeal to you. Of course in my case Lancaster is really well known for it’s Universtiy where some 15,000 sudents come to study. There are a lot of networking groups and clubs. Most of the clubs tend to use tools provided by Facebook for organising events.
So a little about Lancaster courtsey of Wikipedia. “Lancaster is a city in Lancashire, England. Situated on the River Lune, it has a total resident population of 45,952, and together with a number of other towns, forms part of the wider City of Lancaster local government district, with a population of 133,914.
Long existing as a commercial, cultural and educational centre, Lancaster is the traditional county townof Lancashire, to which it gives its name. Lancaster has several unique ties to the British monarchy; the House of Lancaster was a branch of the English royal family, whilst the Duchy of Lancaster holds large estates on behalf of Queen Elizabeth, who herself is also the Duke of Lancaster.”
Some companies that caught my eye that are based here include, Backbone Solutions McCulloch Accountants Lancaster, Choices Employment Services, Mount Recruitment Ltd, Intec, Gillows. Ubertechs.
ICANN have just announced that it is going to be introducing a whole new level of internet domain names as they explain below.
“Presently, users have a limited range of 21 top level domains to choose from — names that we are all familiar with like .com, .org, .info.
This proposal allows applicants for new names to self-select their domain name so that choices are most appropriate for their customers or potentially the most marketable. It is expected that applicants will apply for targeted community strings such as (the existing) .travel for the travel industry and .cat for the Catalan community (as well as generic strings like .brandname or .yournamehere). There are already interested consortiums wanting to establish city-based top level domain, like .nyc (for New York City), .berlin and .paris. “
This is really good news there has been a flourishing market in buying up 4 to 5 letter domain names with the intention to sell them on at a higher price. This will effectively put an end to that. Which means I have a few blog posts to change.
The plan is set for implementation in the first half of 2009. Read more here
