Why do people climb Mountains?

What is in a challenge how does it benefit myself.

In my varied experience of life it has come to my attention how you could possible divide people into two catorgies. this has no benefit for me but it does demonstrate a very interesting point. What makes one person want to fly 2000 miles to climb a mountain in kenya, or another to give up all there possessions and go and live a monks life. We are of course challenged. everyone is challenged from the day they are born to there last dying breath. I can remember a time thinking how do I stop getting challenged. It seemed to me that less you were challenged the more peaceful existence one can lead. This is nonsense not only is it not possible, but it incredible boring which leads to whole host of less favourable situations .

No we are born to be challenged in some way or the other and the quicker we rise up to it the more prepared will be. It is going to happen anyway so one might as well get something out of it.

Staying Cool at Work

All too often people lose there tempers at work, it often feels like at that moment that it is the right thing to do.

You feel the pressure building and when you have shouted, or sent a bad email. You feel better.

A while later as more information comes to light you may realise that you were wrong in your first reaction.

Of course the damage is already done. It is very easy to break something much harder to build it up.

In my experience every time that I have kept my cool I have reaped the rewards, instead of just being seen as reactionary, difficult, or handle with kid gloves. Thoughts anyone…

The Isle of Man no longer smoking.

This is an interesting subjects for a number of reasons. The current trend of recent years to ban smoking from public places has been very successful. There are people that are very proude about this. I take a very different view, One has to ask themselves who it is that benefits from this. There was an example of a smoke free pub here on the IOM. Which bravely decided to make this change, the effects were quite dramatic almost overnight the pub become deserted. Who is it that benefits from smoke free pubs? While there is obviously the people that do not smoke. Considering that they are minority of regular drinkers, why is that pubs have not gone smoke free of their own self will. Simply it is money as it is the pursuit of money that also making them smoke free. The main benefactors from this smoke free environment (in this bloggers opinion) is lawyers and insurance companies.  Insurance companies benefit from the lower risk. It is sad and more important takes away the rights of people. It starts with this but before too long you will not be able to smoke within 70 meters of a public place.(as in canada)  If I ran an ale business and  I knew that 70 percent of my clients are smokers than I would not ban smoking. I am no longer allowed to make this choice. (we have to moddle cuddle every person.) I do believe that the more rules you have the more stupid you make people. This could be the Isle of Man’s great benefit that we think for ourselves and I hope that we do.

(Just for the record, I am a non smoker)

Technorati Profile have you got one?

Currently tracking 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media.

Technorati is the recognized authority on what’s happening on the World Live Web, right now. The Live Web is the dynamic and always-updating portion of the Web. We search, surface, and organize blogs and the other forms of independent, user-generated content (photos, videos, voting, etc.) increasingly referred to as “citizen media.”

But it all started with blogs. A blog, or weblog, is a regularly updated journal published on the web. Some blogs are intended for a small audience; others vie for readership with national newspapers. Blogs are influential, personal, or both, and they reflect as many topics and opinions as there are people writing them.

Blogs are powerful because they allow millions of people to easily publish and share their ideas, and millions more to read and respond. They engage the writer and reader in an open conversation, and are shifting the Internet paradigm as we know it.

On the World Live Web, bloggers frequently link to and comment on other blogs, creating the type of immediate connection one would have in a conversation. Technorati tracks these links, and thus the relative relevance of blogs, photos, videos etc. We rapidly index tens of thousands of updates every hour, and so we monitor these live communities and the conversations they foster.

The World Live Web is incredibly active, and according to Technorati data, there are over 175,000 new blogs (that’s just blogs) every day. Bloggers update their blogs regularly to the tune of over 1.6 million posts per day, or over 18 updates a second.

Technorati. Who’s saying what. Right now.

Network Sensations

There is a interesting dicussion going on over at marketing pilgrim written by Jordan McCollumabout how site visitors to Face book dropped after christmas. Personally I think networks will come ago, a bit like music sensations. Top of the pops for a while then on to the next one. Of course you will have your evergreens. Will anyone remember Facebook in five years time? or will have developed a new way of communication?
