We have to move to Business 3.0

Go green get rich a new socially and environmentally sustainable set of economic and business models.

According to John Ellkington a good director brings that rare ability to per over the  horizon and see what’s incoming.  While big companies such as Marks and Spencer have committed to the green agenda, is this just purely marketing. No, It about being able to  do business in the future. Climate change threatens our economic  balance like no other including the internet and china. It is quite simple, it is about insuring that you have customers. No one is exactly sure what to expect from climate change. Here on the Isle of Man it has been predicted that we could see a return to the ice age. If the warm sea currents that give us our temperate climate were to stop. Would it be so attractive for  businesses to locate somewhere., where they would probably have to go to work dressed as a eskimo bear, if they could get to work.

Network Sensations

There is a interesting dicussion going on over at marketing pilgrim written by Jordan McCollumabout how site visitors to Face book dropped after christmas. Personally I think networks will come ago, a bit like music sensations. Top of the pops for a while then on to the next one. Of course you will have your evergreens. Will anyone remember Facebook in five years time? or will have developed a new way of communication?

Talking From Experience or Not

It has been a while since I have blogged, as I’ve been so busy with work and family and I had a really bad cold. During my time off I had some time to think about what it is? that we talk about. Who do I mean when referring to “we”? Well everybody … communication whether written, spoken, texted, – is an interesting process. Some people will talk all the time about a lot of things that they do not know. Others will use the internet. The amount of mis-information on the internet is remarkable. How does one distinguish between what is accurate and correct and what is baloney. Generally speaking, it is a combination of factors that focus our mind on whether someone is worth doing business with. How someone looks is pretty important. If they look like they have not taken much time over their appearance, then you have to ask yourself: “Would they take much time on any work I would give them? The only way to find that out, is to talk to them . There are lots of people of course who have the gift of the gab. If they are really strong in this area, they are more than likely they will be less strong in other areas. It is a balancing game. Specific areas a person excels in, will mean they will have other areas where they perform less well in. So it is important to assess what you are looking for in the beginning…. When you have noted this you will be in a stronger position to be able to get it…

What to do When Agreements are Broken

Apart from pulling out his toenails and suggesting that the go and visit a shrink for trust issues, there are quite number of things one can do…..

1. First you can inform friends and colleagues that he has gone loopy.

2. You can ask if he has any written signed agreements to back up his claim on why he should be breaking the agreement.

3. You can tell him that he is breaking the law and causing financial lost which would make the company unable to pay any monies due to him.

4. Inform him that software piracy is just as serious crime as theft.

5. Not working with people has never helped any one.

6. Send him a legal letter…

7. Telling him that he is an asshole and hope that he pays heed.

8. Tell him that it is unfashionable for dictatorships, and democracy is the new thing.

9. Keep your humour and sense of judgement.

That is far as I have got, anybody got any more to add……..

MyBlogLog Profiles Going Dynamic

It appears the innovative Mybloglog  has come up with a new concept of not just tracking peoples blogs & websites but also tracking there activity on different web 2.0 platforms like Digg, Proppeller, Last FM, I quite like the idea, not quite sure how it will work in reality, but it will certainly see some activity.

As they tell for themselves:

“In a couple weeks, we’ll be launching a new feature called New with
Me. This feature will use the URLs on the Services tab of your
MyBlogLog profile to aggregate your latest activity on sites such as
Twitter, Last.fm, Digg, and YouTube. As a result, your profile page
will look different – publicly available updates from the services
you have listed will be merged with your existing information. Your
latest Flickr photos, Last.fm tracks, and YouTube videos, will all be
in one place. Updates from your contacts on MyBlogLog will be merged
and available as well. Simply put, the New with Me feature will
transform your static profile into a dynamic one.”

Here is a list of the web 2.0 accounts that I use feel free to contact me through any of them.

Adding Value To The Relationship

Adding value to a network, company or product if one stops to think about it, is really quite easy. When value is added the customer will want more. Yet it is quite amazing the number of people who struggle with this concept and persist in doing it the hard way.

Hence why February the 14 is such a popular day, because we take time to value what matters to us most and that is relationships. It is all about relationships.

Happy Valentines.

Do You Trust The Internet?

Yesterday I came across to two glaring examples of misinformation. One was on the News vine site where someone had posted a story about presidential hopeful Obama. Without wanting to focus on the story as it has been removed It was quite clearly unfounded. But it does show how important it is that we remember the old motto believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see. Of course a web 2.0 social community will provide some form of control and editorship in place of where you may have a lone blog spouting misinformation.
That is the problem in general with speculation, rumour and the internet. There is an awfully lot of information out there that probably is not correct but we have no idea how much. The number of dodgy e-commerce businesses that I have seen is really amazing. All sold by promises that they can never hope to achieve. If something sounds too good to be true it probably is on the internet. If there is none of the usual tracking methods such as feedback, users comments, transaction history then be very suspicious.
