Directors Have Their Emails Printed

Directors that cling to formality and status may find their brands gathering dust.

According to columnist Jane Simmons a very large number of directors have their emails printed out for them. In fact any part of their life that can be managed they have managed from calls screen to their laundry done. In fact it would not surprise me if they did not turn their computer on at all. How long can present directors stay away from the web 2 revolution. More and more smart young people are set to take advantage of missed opportunities by older, far more experienced business people to capitalise on the one billion – odd customers, who represent 89 percent of the of the global GDP, who are now connected to the internet.

Quality versus Commercial

Just recently I have been faced by the dilemma of whether to go overtly commercial in the pursuit of advertisers or build something with a bit more quality and integrity. These decision are always difficult and in the end any decision will only be a contributing factor to the final decision. Of course Cash is king but quality lasts. It is a very easy to match your product to an individually group of customers. Problem is will it be of any interest to anyone else. On the other hand having your own niche market is also great.

A different way to record and plan your Time

Most Companies implement a time recording system of what their employees do while working, so that they can budget and plan properly how long it takes to implement systems or do a piece of work. While these are proven methods to getting accurate information in your company, I would like to suggest a another alternative. What would be the effect if key people on a rotation basis had to keep a blog (diary). Private or public I think it would produce some interesting results.

In the first instance it would allow other people to understand the person.

In the second it would allow one to understand the job.

Of course for financial planning there are some limitations but so long as not everybody is doing it at once it should be fine.

How many opportunities for Business

I am always amazed at just how many possibilities there are for businesses. If I walk down my local high street I often lose count of things that I think could be done better. In fact if a company was just to provide good customer service they would be putting themselves in the top 20 percent of companies. Answering the telephone and doing what is agreed is a good start for any business.

If you Want New Business you Have to do New Things

Advertising by its very nature is about standing out and getting your message across. If you find that your market share is dropping or your sales is going down, you can do what you have done before to remedy the situation. Or you can develop your business with a new idea and seize the initiative. It would appear when we are talking about new ideas in British politics the conservatives are leading. Why is this? Because they embraced a new idea, the fact that the Labour party have copied it… will not help Labour at all.

If you want new business you have to do new things.

It is Good to Make Mistakes

Mistakes, we all make them, if you are making the same one more than once then maybe it is time to examine what you are doing. Fundamentally a mistake is not a bad thing. The risk of doing anything new is that you could fail. If you are not making any mistakes then you are not doing anything new….

Of course there are some mistakes that we regret making. In these cases we just have to be grown up about it and move on. But what if you could do something about it. How far would you go to correct something you know is wrong. A good sign of business is admitting that you have got it wrong and then making the changes. Is there a time limit on this? I do not think so.

Many of the high street banks are now having to correct mistakes made 6 years ago. If you discover that you have made a mistake, and still have the chance. Would you go back and change it?
